If there’s one car that totally stole our heart with its looks at the Chicago Show that would have to be the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 (especially the one in black color).

Despite the fact that theD Challenger (see press photos and details here) is a virtually a modern remake of the homonymous 70’s model, Dodge’s design team has done a really wonderful job with the car’s exterior styling.

Too bad that some decision-makers inside Chrysler LLC chose to follow the easy (some call it cheap…) way with the interior which is near-identical to the one found in the Charger.

Functional it may be, but when you design such a dynamic and aggressive looking body, you expect something much more special and unique inside.

Whats with all the hard plastic in the interior!!!!! When will Dodge ever learn? After 15k miles the interior of every Dodge/Chrysler squeeks like a mouse.

looks way too boxy and seems oddly proportioned compared to the camaro and mustang, definately a result of cramming it onto the same platform as the charger/300

Give me a break- after 10,000k this car will be just another american piece of shit. Wake up! start designing cars that actually make a difference, instead of just LOOKING different. So typically America, wow 500 horsepower! won’t mean shit because you’re sitting in traffic anyway.

Why in the world do American auto makers continue to pump out cars that get 20 mpg when we have $3.00 a gallon gas? I want a car that gets high mileage, not some freaking muscle car that drinks a tank of gas on my commute.

No wonder American auto makers are slowly losing the race.

because we can afford to you nerd. these cars are going to sell $20K over MSRP because people can afford them as toys. have fun driving to your dead end jobs in your compact commuter..

He does have a point though. They make Hyundai’s for people who can’t afford to drive one of these.

I’m a Mopar guy (although NISMO comes first) and I’ll have to say, good work Chrysler! You just brought a 70s car back in 1995 styling.

    What a hunk of trash.

I don’t get what all of you are whining about.

The thing is metal sex. Looks great, fantastic hp, and overall great ride. Why the hell are we comparing this to Hyundai’s with good gas mileage?

If I wanted good gas mileage and a shitty looking care, hell even a good looking one, I would. But I wanna go 0-60 in 4.5 seconds or less.

  17. February 8, 2008 at 9:39 pm | Permalink

It is a pretty darn nice looking car, shame it is a Chrysler. they even surpass Ford in low quality, unreliable garbage, when US auto makers get their act together and start producing vehicles on the Level of Toyota’s quality then we’ll be talkin’
right now, if I want to spend 20k on an animal of a car give me a ’98 Supra twin turbo. and if I want
a classic American car I will restore a REAL classic like a ’70 challenger or ‘cuda.

Don’t claim that people who want good gas mileage should drive hyundai’s and then expect me to feel sorry for detroit. The gov’t gives detroit tax subsidies and support for not being able to compete. This is America, lead or get out of the way! Flashy paint jobs and ‘retro’ styling are for ignorants! Let’s get our heads out of our asses and start making cars that can do 0-60 in five seconds and not use and once of gas…. it is possible. Detroit will collapse due to their short sightedness.

This is for all the low quality remarks.

Maybe you have missed the marketing campaign for the lifetime powertrain warranty! For another 1200 you have bumper to bumper lifetime warranty. No one can say anything about the quality of a Chrysler car when the manufacturer has offered to fix any defects forever.

  21. not quite lifetime
    February 9, 2008 at 11:37 am | Permalink

FYI: The lifetime powertrain warranty is not available on any SRT models. So if you want that lifetime you will be forced to drive a lower/slower trim level. Enjoy that SLOW clunky car for the rest of your life. lol

I dont like the interior on american cars.

  24. February 13, 2008 at 8:23 am | Permalink

I worry about the lack of a lifetime powertrain warranty on a car like this. I’m sure Dodge will only make these for a few years, especially with the new fuel standards going into place, so it’s no skin off their back if these things die after 5 years or so. Still, it’s a true modern muscle car with more bang for the buck than just about any car around.

This is a sweet ride! Better than any of the foriegn shit that rolls around! Mopar is back!!

From most of these comments, I can’t believe people dont understand muscle cars anymore! Comparing them to ricers and hybrids is not even relevant! Its like trying to compare an apple to an orange. Muscle cars are a straight line sexy, badass powerhouse.
