3 essentials for a European road trip

N15-Sextant-0133Spring is upon us, and for many people, this means thinking ahead to the summer and planning the dreamt-about road trip. Taking your car over to the continent is a great, affordable way to see much of what Europe has to offer, but if you’re unsure of what to pack and prepare before you go, it can also be a pretty stressful affair.

That’s why we’ve taken it upon ourselves to come up with this comprehensive guide of what you need to think about before you set off. You’ve got plenty of time to tick these things of your road trip “to-do” list, so ensure that you’ve covered these three points and you’ll be sure to have a stress-free, enjoyable trip.

Let technology be your best friend

Technology can be a big help when you’re planning your road trip. Whether it’s a note-taking app on your phone or tablet like EverNote that allows you to make handy lists on the go so you don’t forget things, or a language-learning app like Rosetta Stone to help you communicate with any non-English speaking locals, there are plenty of ways to take advantage of modern technology that won’t empty your wallet.

You should also think about downloading European map packs for your satnav or smartphone, as these will make getting from A to Z a lot less stressful, and many of these devices don’t come with European packs built-in.

Safety first

No car should be without its emergency pack. This is never truer than a car prepping for a continental road trip. In the event that you get stuck over night somewhere unknown, it’s wise to have bottled water, snacks like dried fruit and nuts, some blankets incase it gets cold, and a torch so that you can see what you’re doing if the power in your vehicle runs out. Here are a few more suggestions for your car survival kit.

Getting your car up to scratch

Preparing your car is a big part of getting ready for a road trip. Make sure that everything’s working, and taking your car in for a full service just before you leave is never a bad idea – just make sure you’ve budgeted enough time and money for any repairs. You also need to think about breakdown cover like that available from a specialist provider like Breakdown Direct – the last thing you want to happen is to think that you’re fully prepared back home, only to find yourself in a breakdown emergency on foreign soil without cover.

So there you have it: a few great ways to ensure your European road trip goes smoothly.

  1. One thing that is missing from this is that many albums that are created today are recorded digitally. If those mastering the audio don’t work it out properly, the sample rate of 44 Khz that limits standard CD will also limit the audio on the vinyl. And if they’ve ruined the music by “brick walling” it in the mastering phase and push this over to the vinyl, as Metallica did with Death Magnetic, the audio will STILL be ruined. While it is nice to educate the masses that vinyl is better audio wise to CD, you should also educate the masses that it is entirely possible to ruin vinyl in the same ways producers and groups can ruin CDs.
