PROTON just announced that they are upgrading their Satria R3 model released in 2004 (only 150 units) and the new street-legal Satria Neo R3 is going to be available. The specs are pretty good.
It uses a normally aspired 1.6-liter engine with power hiking to 100kW/ 135 bhp and torque at 164 Nm while the main focus is on dynamic handling to offer a “controlled yet exciting driving experience”.
The new PROTON Satria Neo R3 is coming in Incognito Black, with 17-inch tires, has a lowered suspension and a better braking system, Recaro seats and a MOMO steering wheel. Isn’t that enough for the €15,000 price ?
Too bad they will only build 50 units right now. They will probably add more in the next months because I would definitely buy one for that price and looks.

hi there. My name is peter.I live in south africa and i bought a satria neo brand new.i have had this car for just over 1 year and all its given me was problems from day 1. for example oil leak, breaks failed, back window not working, rattle in the dashboard, door rubbers unsticking, windscreen wipers not working properly, my key that that battery has been replaced 10 times and the alarm has been reprogramed at least 5 times and now the central locking does not work with very very very poor service from the agents. the window to get sorted out took them 1 year to do. with the breaks there was also a grinding metal to metal sound i sent it in and only got my car 3 weeks later and i drove it for 5 km and that sound came back and even now nothing is getting done…… so yes this is a very very bad car. i have put this here so you can see what problems i have and hoping someone can help me because the guys in south africa do nothing to help but they are fast to take your money.
Oh my goodness,I wish I saw this mail, before I bought my car.I had the car for 4 months now.And my central locking is giving me a hassle. It unlocks itsself.

I bought my 2008 Satria Neo GX at the start of 2009. It was supppose to be an 06/08 build date, turns out it’s 04/07.
It’s the 9th car I’ve owned since I bought my 1st car back in 1996. The Satria Neo has been the worst of them all.
Day 1: Hubcap falls off, turns out the dealership had tied 2 of the hubcaps on with string!
The radio doesn’t switch off, even with the keys out of the ignition. Roadside assistance has to come & disconnect the battery in order to get the radio to power off. I had to call roadside assistance the night I bought the car!
Day 2: 2nd hubcap falls off.
Since then: I’ve had the keyless entry fixed numerous times. It’s the worst keyless entry you can imagine.
I’ve had the alarm replaced once & fixed a couple of other times. I’ve driven out of a shopping centre car park with the alarm blaring. Not even the reset button fixes it. Currently the alarm is disconnected.
One of the stereo speakers cuts out 1/2 the time I use the rear wiper. I have to turn the stereo off & back on again to get the speaker to start working again. It’s recently started happening when I put the passenger window down too.
I’ve had the boot latch fixed a couple of times as the boot refuses to close. Same story with the glovebox.
One of the lights for the power window switch was never luminated properly & I’ve never been able to get Proton to replace it.
The gearstick knob is starting to fall off.
The brakes have an awful metal on metal sound often, but not always.
The front windscreen wipers swing too far to the right, thus hitting the metal part, past the glass. Causing a lovely wacking sound everytime they hit the metal frame.
Putting petrol into it has always been a chore. It constanty clicks off every 50 cents or so. Eventually the part where the fuel nozel goes into tank, broke & nealry came out altogether. It was replaced, but has since starting looking like it’s going to break again.
I think I’ve covered most of the things that have gone wrong with this lemon.
It gets traded tomorrow for a new car I have on order. Needless to say it’s not a Proton.
Sit in a Proton. Look at how the parts on the dash join up, the crooked seams. Same with the external panels, all you need to do is look at some photos of a Gen2 on the Proton official website. The panels don’t sit right. Bad Proton quality all round.
On the positive side of things. The Satria Neo has awesome handling & looks, comfortable seating, reverse sensors as standard and the engine seems to be completely reliable.
Please learn from other’s mistakes. Don’t buy a Proton!
